The death of Alaafin, according to Dr. Kunle Olajide, Secretary-General of the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), was a major loss to Nigeria and the Yoruba nation in particular.

Olajide told the said this in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday that Alaafin’s rule, which lasted a little over 40 years, was full of events. He followed Yoruba land’s custom and commanded great respect for the institution of Obaship; he never desecrated Yoruba land’s monarchy.

“It is a great loss for Nigeria, and a big loss in especially for the Yoruba people,” he said. He followed Yoruba customs and monarchical institutions to the letter. While Oyo State and the Yoruba nation would undoubtedly mourn the royal’s father, he has left indelible imprints in the sands of time.

“The Kabiyesi is a name that will live in infamy. May his spirit rest in perfect peace, but we must not forget to convey condolence messages to the Oyo people, as well as the Republic of Benin and the whole Yoruba race.

“However, we are grateful to God that he led a valuable life and left permanent imprints in the sands of time.” Olajide commented, “May his spirit rest in perfect peace.”
