This iconic track was published in 1984 when freedom of speech was not in vogue.
Sunny Okosun was one of the few artists who was bold enough to challenge the ills of society. Sunny discussed problems that troubled the nation and also challenged the country’s development years after independence. The false promises made by the leaders and the shattered dreams of the children, who were always assured that they were tomorrow’s leaders, but never had a chance. He calls on Nigerians not to let the nation perish.
“Which way is Nigeria is heading to, Many years after independence, We still find it hard to start, How long shall we be patient till we reach the promised land, Let’s save Nigeria, So Nigeria won’t die, Which way Nigeria? Which way to go? I love my fatherland, I want to know, Which way Nigeria is heading to…” Decades years later, this track is still relevant.

Sony Okosun was a visionary artiste. The question in his song is still the most relevant question today, decades after it was released. It’s such a shame. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
