Early Life

Born on March 15, 1989, Olamide Gbenga Adedeji is a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, and record executive.

One of the most important musicians in Africa, he has contributed significantly to the artistic and financial success of many Afrobeats musicians and is widely acknowledged for having helped bring Street Pop to the general public’s attention as a separate musical genre.

He records in both English and Yoruba. While he was signed to Coded Tunes, he released his debut studio album, Rapsodi, in 2011. His second album, YBNL, was made available under his label imprint, “Yahoo Boy No Laptop,” also known as YBNL Nation.

The lead singles from the album were “First of All,” “Voice of the Street,” “Stupid Love,” and “Ilefo Illuminati.” Baddest Guy Ever Liveth, his third studio album, was released on November 7, 2013. Two singles from the album are “Durosoke” and “Yemi My Lover.”

On July 17, 2013, Olamide became the first Nigerian to sign a Cîroc endorsement contract.

Olamide debuted with “Eni Duro” in 2010. He performed at The Hip Hop World Awards that year. Financial troubles forced him to drop out of Tai Solarin University. He’s married to Aisha Adebukunmi. Maximilian and Tunrepin are their sons. He supposedly had a love kid with The Beat 99.9 FM’s Maria Okanrende.

Rapsodi, his debut album, came out in 2011. In Lagos and across Nigeria, Omo To Shan’s lead track charted on several local and national radio stations. Many artists worked with Olamide after his debut album was released, including Wizkid, ID Cabasa, 9ice, and D’banj.

In November 2012, he released his second studio album, YBNL. Tyrone (producer), Samklef, 2 Kriss, Pheelz, and ID Cabasa were all involved in the film’s creation. Olamide released his fourth album, Street OT, on November 14, 2014, through YBNL Nation. After his 2013 Baddest Guy Ever Liveth album, he released a new album. Pheelz, B-Banks, and Young Jonn were involved in the project’s production. Olamide’s album’s title is a tribute to the “streets,” a term that he sees as synonymous with his own identity.

EP 999 was published by Olamide on February 10, 2020, as a surprise project. Pheelz produced the majority of the album’s nine tracks. Phyno, Maximilliano (Olamide’s son), and others appear in the film.

YBNL Nation and Empire have formed a joint venture to distribute Olamide’s music internationally. This was announced by Olamide on February 18th, 2020. Fireboy DML and any other new artists signed to YBNL Nation will also share in the benefits of the partnership, according to him.

“Carpe Diem,” Olamide’s eleventh studio album, will be out on October 8th, 2020.
